Records of the Legislative Process

The legislative process is documented with records from the Iowa General Assembly, the Legislative Service Bureau and the Secretary of State’s office. These records include bill drafts, committee minutes and reports, bill jackets for bills proposed (whether adopted or defeated), legislative journals, and the Laws of Iowa. For a current look at the legislative process you might want to visit the Iowa General Assembly

Records of the Iowa Supreme Court

Among the records of the Iowa Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals are case files, abstracts and arguments, and opinion records. For the most part, a case citation including case file number and date of opinion is required to gain access to these records.

Census Records

Census records from Iowa state census returns and the federal census records are available for public use in the State Historical Society of Iowa’s reading rooms. Additional information on census microfilm is available for interlibrary loan and purchase.
