DES MOINES – The
popular summer blues series “Blues Before Sunset” returns to the State
Historical Building June 2 with well-known headliner the Blue Band.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary
year, the Blue Band has a dedicated fan base of all ages and has become one of
Iowa’s most revered and requested bands. This 5-piece group performs original
and cover blues, soul, rockabilly and R&B grooves. They’ve been touted
as “the best rockin’ soul dance band in the heartland” by the
Mississippi Valley Blues Society.

Blues Before Sunset (BBS),
sponsored by the Iowa Arts Council, the State Historical Society of Iowa, Central
Iowa Blues Society, MY 100 FM, Baratta’s and the Downtown Community Alliance,
is a weekly, outdoor event from 5 to 7 p.m. on the State Historical Building’s
southwest terrace at the corner of East Locust and East 6th streets. The event
is family friendly, free and open to the public. Beer, wine, bottled water and
soft drinks will be available for sale. An assortment of food vendors will also
be selling market-type hot foods. Those who attend are encouraged to bring their
own lawn chairs.

100 FM (my 80s, my 90s, my music) throughout the summer for information on upcoming
Blues Before Sunset shows. MY 100 will also be broadcasting live from each Friday
night event, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the State Historical Building, 600 E. Locust,
Des Moines.
Take a little blues home
with you! A compilation CD of Blues Before Sunset featuring bands – past
and present – is now available. This professionally produced “signature
series” CD represents the best of local blues band talent and can be purchased
for $10 at each Blues Before Sunset event or by contacting Frank Strong at 515-314-3843.
