History Hunters Museum Vault Tour

$12 Adults, $8 children ages 7-12 at www.iowatix.com.
Due to the sensitive nature of artifacts in the museum’s
permanent collection, the tour is limited to adults
and children 7 and older.
Become a History Hunter during this hour-long, behind-the-scenes
walking tour that explores the museum's vault, an
underground climate controlled preservation center
that is home to more than 100,000 artifacts. Among
the many unusual and interesting items you will see
are a log cabin, square grand pianos and even a can
of Spam. Also, old cars, an early Iowa State Patrol
motorcycle, antique furniture and more! Tours are
limited to groups of 20. Special private group tours
can be arranged by calling (515) 281-3809. Proceeds
from ticket sales are used for the care and preservation
of the collection.

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work involved,
tours are limited to 10 participants age 12 and older.
See Iowa s Civil War Battle Flags Up Close! The hour-long
tour reveals the process of stabilization and conservation
of flags more than 100 years old, many of which hung
in the Rotunda of the State Capitol. Battle Flag Lab
staff offer an entertaining and educational presentation
on how the flags are meticulously assessed, stabilized,
and preserved for storage and future display. Visit

piece of Iowa history. Battle Flag tours are held
the third Saturday of each month. A portion of the
proceeds go to the Iowa Battle Flag Preservation Fund.
