(DES MOINES) – The State Historical Society of Iowa will celebrate the rich history and tradition of Iowa’s Civil War battle flags during the 2nd Annual Battle Flag Ball next month.

The event is at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 17, 2007 at the State Historical Building. Tickets are $20 per person and $10 for children 12 and younger at www.iowatix.com. Proceeds support continued conservation of the State Historical Society’s battle flag collection.

The family-friendly military-style ball will feature Civil War re-enactors, festive period music and dancing, curator presentations, buffet dinner created by Café Baratta’s, cash bar and live and silent auction featuring two reproduction flags prints and handcrafted reproduction items.

In addition, the museum will host a Civil War Festival 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 17. Admission is free and participants can try on Civil War uniforms, learn about Iowa’s Civil War battle flags and how SHSI is preserving them, and learn songs of the battle and watch drills presented by color guards.
