MOINES) – The State Historical Society
of Iowa will celebrate the rich history and tradition
of Iowa’s Civil War battle flags during the
2nd Annual Battle Flag Ball next month.
The event is at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 17, 2007 at the State
Historical Building. Tickets are $20 per person and
$10 for children 12 and younger at www.iowatix.com.
Proceeds support continued conservation of the State
Historical Society’s battle flag collection.
The family-friendly military-style ball will feature
Civil War re-enactors, festive period music and dancing,
curator presentations, buffet dinner created by Café
Baratta’s, cash bar and live and silent auction
featuring two reproduction flags prints and handcrafted
reproduction items.
In addition, the museum will host a Civil War Festival
11 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 17. Admission is free and participants
can try on Civil War uniforms, learn about Iowa’s
Civil War battle flags and how SHSI is preserving
them, and learn songs of the battle and watch drills
presented by color guards.
The State Historical Society of Iowa is a trustee
of Iowa’s historical legacy and an advocate
