Holidays on the Trails rescheduled for weekend

(DES MOINES) – The Western Historic Trails Center has rescheduled its annual Holidays on the Trails program to this weekend, when visitors can explore a full slate of activities, fun and shopping for the entire family.

Shoppers will receive a 10 percent discount on all purchases – except for beverages – and free gift wrapping at the WHTC’s Trails West Book Store and Gift Shop, which also offers tax-free shopping all year. The WHTC is at 3434 Richard Downing Avenue in Council Bluffs. The event is free and open to the public. Call 712-366-4900 or visit www.iowahistory.org for more information.

Saturday
9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Ten percent off purchases (excludes beverages) and free holiday gift wrapping.
Free holiday crafts for kids to make and take.

Noon-4 p.m.
Wine pouring by local wineries. Wine available for purchase.

1-4 p.m.
Free photos with Santa, courtesy of Best Buy

2 p.m.
Free movie: Stranger in the Woods

Sunday
9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Free holiday crafts for kids to make and take.

9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Ten percent off purchases (excludes beverages) and free holiday gift wrapping.

2 p.m.
Free movie: Lost in the Woods (children’s movie)

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs is responsible for developing the state’s interest in the areas of the arts, history and other cultural matters with the advice and assistance from its two divisions: the State Historical Society of Iowa and the Iowa Arts Council. DCA preserves, researches, interprets and promotes an awareness and understanding of local, state and regional history and stimulates and encourages the study and presentation of the performing and fine arts and public interest and participation in them. It implements tourism-related art and history projects as directed by the General Assembly and designs a comprehensive, statewide, long-range plan with the assistance of the Iowa Arts Council to develop the arts in Iowa.
