DES
MOINES, Iowa - Grant applications for the
Historical Resource Development Program will be
discussed by review panels next week to determine
which grants will be recommended for funding approval.
Funding requests from 111 applications totaling
nearly $1.5 million will be reviewed in three
categories:
historic preservation--the Iowa Historical
Records Advisory Board will meet Apr. 1 to
review 73 applications totaling $1.1 million in
requests;
documentary collections--the State Nominating
and Review Committee will meet Apr. 3 to review
17 applications totaling $155,368 in requests;
and
museum--the Museum panel will meet Apr. 5 to
review 21 applications totaling $228,226 in
requests.
All review panels will be held at the State
Historical Building beginning at 9 a.m. each day. The
public is invited to attend to observe the review
panel process.
Applications that are recommended by the review
panel will go before the State Historical Society of
Iowa Board of Trustees for approval, followed by final
approval by Anita Walker, director of the Department
of Cultural Affairs. Grant award applicants will be
notified of their award in June.
The Historical Resource Development Program is
funded through the Resource Enhancement and Protection
Act program, enacted in 1989. These grants are
reimbursement grants which assist Iowans in
preserving, conserving, interpreting and educating
citizens about the historical resources of Iowa.
The State Historical Building is located at 600 E.
Locust in Des Moines. For more information, call Cynthia
Nieb at (515) 281-8754.
