Grants

With the help of a federal earmark sponsored by Senator Tom Harkin and continued support from major funder State Historical Society, Inc., National History Day in Iowa is pleased to announce the continuation of special programs and services for the 2005-2006 school year.

Emergency Mini-Grants
In light of budget restrictions facing many schools and families, the State Historical Society of Iowa will be providing several small mini-grants to help Iowa schools continue to offer high-quality history education experiences in conjunction with the National History Day (NHD) program. Applicants may request funds to help make possible research, project, or contest experiences that they might not otherwise be able to afford. Project proposals could include (but are not limited to) things such as transportation expenses for research days, workshops, or contest events; registration fees for underprivileged students; substitute fees so that teachers may join their students on research field trips or contest days; and project-related supplies or photocopying funds. Applications are reviewed first come, first serve. Find out more information and apply for an Emergency Mini-Grant.

Innovation Mini-Grants
The Innovation Mini-grants are intended to help both new and veteran NHD schools improve their History Day programs. This grant could fund such projects as the purchase of books or research resources for schools, substitute or travel fees to help NHD teachers attend or judge at an event, honoraria for guest speakers, or stipends for teachers for special projects. Applications are reviewed first come, first serve. Find out more information and apply for an Innovation Mini-Grant.
