Discover Archaeology
October 3 & 4, 2013
Grades 3-6

What would happen if you found mammoth bones in your back yard? Find out at the State Historical Museum of Iowa when archaeologists from the University of Iowa Museum of Natural History share stories of their ongoing dig near Oskaloosa. Through interactive workshops designed by the Office of the State Archaeologist, students will learn what it takes to dig up history.

Pippa White: Saints, Soldiers and Spies of the Civil War
December 10, 12 & 13, 2013
Grades 8-12

Using information gleaned from diaries, memoirs and oral histories, Pippa White brings the experiences of people involved in America's Civil War to life on stage. In this One’s Company production, you'll meet saints (nurses, abolitionists, and risk-takers), soldiers (including women and children), and spies (often the most unlikely recruits) who fought for causes they believed in--and have fascinating stories to tell.

OPERA IOWA: The Three Little Pigs

Grades K-6

For the 28th annual tour, the Des Moines Metro Opera’s OPERA IOWA Educational Touring Troupe will present John Davie’s perfect introduction to the music of Mozart, The Three Little Pigs. This operatic version of a childhood favorite tells the tale of two sassy pigs and their older and wiser sister.
