Fish at Saganaush Lake

Fun, family and trout are scheduled for the last trout stocking of the season. Come and experience trout fishing while the weather is just right for you and the fish to enjoy!
Sauganash Lake at Western Historic Trails Center and Big Lake will be stocked with 1800 keeper-size rainbow trout Friday afternoon, March 27th.
“The trout stocking Council Bluffs provides a unique opportunity for people looking for an outdoor activity for the whole family,” says Bryan Hayes Fisheries Biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.  Trout provide an easy to catch fish for kids.  “A worm on a hook fished under a small bobber works as good as anything.”  Stocking trout in Council Bluffs brings fishing close to home for a lot of people and provides an opportunity to get kids hooked on fishing.
Iowa residents and non-residents, regardless of age, must pay a trout fee to fish for or possess trout. Individuals, 16 years and older, must also have a valid fishing license. Children, under 16 years, fishing with a properly licensed adult (ie. fishing license & trout fee) do not need a trout fee to fish for or possess trout, but together their daily limit is five trout. For more information on fishing rules, see the 2009 Iowa Fishing Regulations booklet.
A fishing license and trout fee can be obtained at any local hunting and fishing license sales agent, including Western Historic Trails Center, or from the link of the Iowa DNR homepage at iowadnr.gov.
