Help Make the Crinoid the Official State Fossil

Interested individuals have requested the General Assembly to designate the crinoid as the official state fossil because:
  • crinoids symbolize Iowa’s geologic and paleontological heritage of
  • crinoid are common fossils found in the Paleozoic rocks which underlie most of Iowa
  • Iowans have made significant contributions to the identification and preservation of crinoids and the publication their research.

If you or a school class is interested in supporting this request simply write your local senator or representative in support.
