In 1890, William Morrison of Des Moines rolled his newly invented Morrison Electric car onto the city streets. Quietly it rolled over the brick streets to introduce Iowa to the auto age. Morrison was the first of many Iowans who made automobiles, trucks, and tractors. Some of these designs had lasting influence on the industry. In 1906 Fred and Augie Duesenberg began production of their first car under the financial backing of Edward Mason. The Mason was a limited success, surviving until 1915 under the names Mason and Maytag. The Duesenberg brothers went on to produce many magnificent machines under their own name.
