Request
for Inclusion on the list of Registered Consultants
Consultants
who meet the appropriate Secretary of the Interior’s Professional
Qualification Standards and who have expressed an interest in performing
work in Iowa can file a request with the SHPO to be placed on the List of Registered
Consultants.
Please send in the following
information to the State Historic Preservation Office for review:
- A Letter of Intent
- An up-to-date Résumé
or Curriculum Vitae
- Information on how the
individual meets the appropriate Secretary of the Interior’s Professional
Qualification Standards
For archeologists, the
Federal Professional Qualification Documentation for Archeologists form provides
guidance on the types of information requested for the review of qualifications.
This form can be submitted with the information requested above. Use of this form
expedites the review process at SHPO. Keep in mind that being a member of the
Register of Professional Archeologists (RPA) does not necessarily equate to meeting
the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional qualification standards as
a Historic Archeologist, Prehistoric Archeologist, or as both.

The SHPO will review the
information upon receipt. If an individual meets the appropriate Secretary of
the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards, the SHPO will notify
the individual that they have been added to the list of Registered Consultants.
If there is not enough information provided on whether an individual meets the
appropriate qualification standard, the SHPO will request additional information
from the individual for consideration. If the SHPO review concludes that the individual
does not meet the appropriate qualification standards, the SHPO will notify the
individual who may provide additional information to the SHPO for consideration.
The individual and/or the SHPO can also file an appeal for review of the individual’s
credentials by the National Park Service.
