Iowa Barn Foundation Tour June 4-5
The Iowa Barn Foundation is sponsoring a self-guided tour along Highway 2 in eastern
and southern Iowa June 4-5. This highway is associated with the establishment
of an east-west territorial road along a wagon trail, surveyed in 1844, that led
the Mormons west. In the mid-1850s, a stagecoach line called Western Stage etched
out a route across the southern part of the state, accommodating settlers headed
for Kansas.
Stops include the Taylor County Round Barn, The Ramsey Farm at Lesanville, Goodman’s Octagonal Barn near Leon, and The Exline Store and Antique Exchange.
The barns on this free, self-guided tour are open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with a break for the annual picnic, and from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The Iowa Barn Foundation’s annual picnic and meeting will be held on Sunday, June 5 at 12:30 p.m. at The Ramsey Farm at Lesanville, an idyllic restored village, east of Mount Ayr. A barbecue lunch will be included. The cost is $9.50 per person. Checks for the picnic should be made out to the Iowa Barn Foundation and sent to Roxanne Mehlisch, 17590 730th Avenue, Zearing, Iowa 50278 by May 25.
