Father’s Day Gift Ideas from the State Historical Society

Father’s Day is Sunday, June 19 and there are lots of great ideas for Dad in both the Iowa Museum Store at the State Historical Building and the Western Historic Trails Center Gift Shop in Council Bluffs. If you’re looking for something unique, something for the Dad who has everything, or something he’d never buy for himself, the State Historical Society has it! Here is a sample of the items you can find for Dad:

1. Fun, silk ties sporting styles from antique cars to watermelons.

2. “Signature Series” photographs from the Historical Society’s Special Collections depicting Iowa life during the 1930s and 1940s.

3. Flags flown over the State capitol. Fly a flag in honor of your Dad— includes official certificate. Contact Store for details.

4. Antique maps—many county and township maps are available from the 1875 Andreas Atlas and 1912 Iowa Touring Atlas.

5. Unique tie tacks or money clips fashioned from U.S. coins including the eagle from the JFK half dollar and the Grant Wood schoolhouse from the Iowa quarter.

6. Autographed copy of Dayton Duncan’s Scenes of Visionary Enchantment: Reflections on Lewis and Clark.

7. Other books available: Midnight Assassin: A Murder in America’s Heartland, Ding Darling Sampler, Iowa Curiosities, and Gilead, the 2005 Pulitzer Prize winning work of fiction by Iowa City writer Marilynne Robinson.
