Find Your Ancestors in Iowa’s Capital City
The State Historical Society of Iowa and the Iowa Genealogical Society will present a joint conference May 5-6 that will provide an in-depth look at the resources available to genealogy researchers.
An evening event will begin Friday, May 5 at 5 p.m. with registration and refreshments at the IGS Library, 628 E. Grand Avenue, Des Moines. The library will be open for research. The State Historical Library, located directly across the street from IGS, will present “Gems in the Archives” at 7 p.m. This program will provide a look at the vast resources in the SHSI Archives. Researchers are then invited to continue their work at IGS from 8 to 9:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 6, begins with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the IGS Library, followed by sessions throughout the day. Sessions include Caring For Your Family Photos, Where Did They Come From? Researching Your Immigrant Ancestors – Italian, German and English, The Norwegian-Iowa History Project and more. The State Historical Museum will also offer vault tours for an additional charge.
Registration costs $50, plus optional museum vault tours. Registration
