Summer Day Camps at the Museum
Looking for something worthwhile and fun for your kids to do over the summer? Try these summer day camps and daytime performances at The State Historical Museum:
Lewis & Clark
June 12-14, performances at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., $5
Ages 7-12
On February 28, 1803, President Thomas Jefferson won approval from Congress
for a visionary project, an endeavor that would become one of America’s
greatest stories of adventure. Over the next four years, the Corps of Discovery,
led by Jefferson’s secretary, Meriwether Lewis, and Lewis’friend,
William Clark, would travel thousands of miles, experiencing lands, rivers
and people that no Americans had before. In this new play, commissioned
by the Des Moines Playhouse, you’ll go along with Lewis and Clark
as they venture along Iowa’s border on the Missouri River to open

Immigrant Stew at the Chat and Chew
July 20-21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., performances at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Ages 7-12
Would you like to know how to make puppets comes to life? Spend the first
part of this 2-day camp learning the different parts of puppetry and making
your own puppets! Then bring your creations to life with performances of
“Immigrant Stew at the Chat and Chew,” the story of the many
people who have made Iowa their home over the centuries. Camp is held under
the direction of Eulenspiegel Puppets, a nonprofit puppet company organized
to promote the art of puppetry by producing and presenting high-quality
performances and workshops. Limit: 25 participants. Cost is $125. Performances

“I Want to be Governor!”
August 7-11
Ages 7-12
Child’s Play Touring Theatre from Chicago returns to the State Historical
Museum for this 4-day camp. Actors with the troupe will work with students
to create stories, poems and songs on the theme, “I Want to be Governor!”
Work will culminate with public performances August 11 at 10 a.m. and 1
p.m. Pieces created by students will be included in a fall show during the
regular Museum Theatre season. Limit: 40 participants. Cost is $125. Performances
