“Villisca” Wins Top Award
In its first appearance at a film festival, the critically acclaimed documentary
feature film Villisca: Living with a Mystery has won a top prize at the
Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival. Los Angeles producers Kelly and
Tammy Rundle of Fourth Wall Films accepted the first place Gold Award in
the Master Documentary category April 8 at the Collins Road Theatres in
Cedar Rapids.
Villisca explores the history and mystery surrounding the 1912 Villisca
axe murders — Iowa’s worst mass homicide. The film was produced
over a 10-year period. A 14-month limited theatrical release followed its
2004 premiere at the State Historical Museum.
Villisca screened twice during the festival to enthusiastic audiences, and
both showings were followed by a Q&A session with the Rundles. For the
first time, the winners of the sixth annual Cedar Rapids Independent Film
Festival were screened at the festival venue from April 9-13. With this
theatrical engagement, Villisca has now been featured in theaters in 50
cities.
The award-winning Villisca: Living with a Mystery is available on DVD in
more than 80 retail outlets in numerous states, and online at Amazon.com
and www.VilliscaMovie.com.
