Battle Flag Ball Celebrates Opening of New Exhibit
A gala event celebrating the opening of the State Historical Museum’s latest exhibit, Civil War Survivors: Battle Flags Tell Stories from the Front will be Friday, February 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the State Historical Museum in Des Moines. Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, Commander in Chief of the Iowa National Guard, will be the event’s special guest.
The event will feature an exclusive preview of the battle flag exhibit; a formal presentation of the colors by an Iowa National Guard color guard; Civil War-era dances; curator presentations; and dinner by Baratta’s.
Tickets are $125 per person and reservations can be made by contacting Inger Hall at (515) 281-8741 or Inger.Hall@iowa.gov by February 10. A downloadable R.S.V.P. form is also available. Entire tables can also be reserved for $1,000, guaranteeing eight guests can sit together. Attire for the event is black tie optional; dress blues or mess dress for military personnel. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible. All proceeds benefit the Iowa Battle Flags Preservation Project.
