Iowa’s five-year Statewide Historic Preservation Plan is intended to embrace local, regional, and state perspectives. In addition to a thorough history of preservation in Iowa and a discussion of the state of preservation as we know it today, five historic preservation goals for Iowa are presented in the Statewide Preservation Plan, each of which is accompanied by objectives or action steps. These goals are not expected to be achieved by every state agency, local government, or private preservation organization. Rather, some objectives will be accomplished by a City, some by the State Historical Society of Iowa, and yet others by organizations working in parallel on their own or with other preservation partners. The plan as presented here is intended to guide statewide efforts through 2010, at which point a revised plan will be in place. Plan revision will get under way in late 2009 or early 2010, and will be done though a process of public participation. To be part of this process, please check back at this website for information.
